Groupe SEB USA faced a manual, time-consuming process to generate and add alt text to their product images.
Juliana Yepes, content operations lead at Groupe SEB USA, was responsible for applying alt text to more than 5,000 images for the company’s direct-to-consumer (D2C) site.
“The alt text process is so important because we need to ensure we meet the ADA compliance regulations and provide a great shopping experience for all of our customers,” Yepes says. “But the creation and upload process for the alt text was very inefficient and frankly, very painful.”
Before using Salsify’s Intelligence Suite to support this process, Groupe SEB’s product and content team spent one to two hours per product to create alt text along with a brief for the content team.
Yepes then manually copied and pasted the alt text into the asset metadata for each product, often needing to go back and forth with counterparts as edits were made or questions arose. This process consumed at least two hours of Yepes’ day, and the first round of alt text uploads for the initial 5,000 images took nearly eight months to complete.
After attending Salsify’s 2025 Digital Shelf Summit (DSS) and connecting with other Salsify customers, Yepes realized that she wasn’t fully utilizing Salsify to help streamline this process.
“Attending the Summit was so eye-opening; I realized that Salsify’s platform is so much more powerful than I had realized,” she says. “We needed to approach our Salsify partnership in a different way to drive efficiency.”

Using Salsify’s latest solution, Intelligence Suite, Groupe SEB can now use AI to automatically generate and apply alt text to their product images at scale — no manual uploads required.
Intelligence Suite creates alt text for each image, and then a Salsify workflow automatically triggers a task for the product team to review and approve the language.
Yepes no longer needs to play a part in the process unless there’s a specific question from her team.
“I have so much more time to focus on strategic priorities, instead of getting stuck in manual work that took up too much time,” she says.
Groupe SEB plans to expand its use of Intelligence Suite, including managing images with text overlay where the alt text must precisely match the image text.
The team is also planning to leverage Intelligence Suite to personalize content for different shopper segments by tailoring product descriptions and bullet points for specific retail endpoints.
Intelligence Suite has proved to be a “game-changer” for Groupe SEB USA, leading to immediate and significant time savings.
The entire alt text process, even for a large batch of 50–100 images, now takes about five minutes — down from more than two hours — with high-quality text generated in seconds.
By eliminating the manual work, Yepes can focus on higher-value work, such as incremental process optimization, eliminating redundancies, and aligning her work with Groupe SEB’s overall business strategy.
