Transformer

A transformer is the mechanism through which an artificial intelligence (AI) solution turns inputted data into an output.

What Is a Transformer?

Machine-learning tools are specifically designed to complete certain tasks: analyze data, answer questions, chat with humans, and more. Transformers are the key neural network architectures that enable them to move from input to output. Say a consumer asks a brand’s chatbot, “Does this dress come in blue?” The AI chatbot then turns the sentence inputted into the query into numerical values to categorize and understand each word. It forms semantic relationships with other data — other terms, inventory data, and more — to then generate an output: In this case, yes or no. Transformers facilitate this process, often on a massive or highly complex level. Sophisticated AI solutions can use transformers to process language parameters to analyze inputs quickly and effectively, making associations between meanings as they go. Without transformers, AI solutions would lack the ability to translate language, answer queries, interpret human language, or process data.
