GS1 Appoints Salsify’s CEO Jason Purcell to the Global Data Synchronisation Network Board

BOSTON – DECEMBER 19, 2023 – GS1, a global not-for-profit standards organization, recently appointed Salsify co-founder and CEO Jason Purcell to its Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN) Board of Directors. Purcell joined as a Commercial Data Pool representative and assumed membership on the Board’s Finance Committee. Other members welcomed to the Board at the October meeting included Sébastien Vanneau, Product Data Quality & Standards Director at L’Oreal and Marina Lopes Furtado, Senior Manager, Digital Identification & Traceability at Johnson & Johnson.

As part of the membership of the GS1 GDSN Board, Purcell will help the board set strategic direction for GS1 GDSN including the GS1 Global Registry, approve GS1 GDSN strategic plans, and help define the strategy for driving the open exchange of the data businesses required to drive commerce and growth around the world. In addition, the GDSN Inc. Board oversees the annual budget and other important financial and operational responsibilities.

Purcell brings deep experience to the domain of product data management and ecommerce, starting with his decade-long tenure at Endeca creating the industry’s first site search and browse capabilities for retailer websites. Following Endeca, acquired by Oracle in 2011, he co-founded Salsify, provider of the industry’s leading Product Experience Management (PXM) platform used by thousands of brands worldwide to manage, distribute, and optimize their product content on the digital shelf.

“Now more than ever, rich, accurate, and complete product information is the essential foundation for successful commerce, and GDSN’s continued growth is vital to the industry,” said Jason Purcell, co-founder and CEO of Salsify. “I am honored to join the GS1 GDSN Board, on behalf of our customers, to aid in the organization’s work to simplify, modernize, and spur adoption of this critical resource to help ensure the reliable and efficient exchange of trade item data around the world.”
