    Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL)

Buy now, pay later (BNPL) is a payment option in which a consumer pays a partial amount for a product at checkout — and pays the rest in one or more installments later.

What Is Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL)?

In a buy now, pay later (BNPL) payment model, the brand or retailer divides up the total cost of a product into multiple amounts. The consumer pays an initial percentage of the total amount at checkout, and then follows up with one or more payments over the course of an agreed-upon timeframe.

Most businesses require customers to complete an application and credit check before agreeing to terms. While many buy now, pay later (BNPL) plans don’t charge interest, some include an interest charge either on top of the total amount for the product or in situations where a customer misses their payment plan terms.

Due to the benefits this model brings to both consumers and businesses, buy now, pay later (BNPL) is becoming increasingly popular. BNPL can give customers the financial flexibility they need, especially when making large, expensive purchases. Because of this flexibility, businesses that offer BNPL often see stronger customer loyalty and lower shopping cart abandonment rates.
